TCD School of Medicine is one of Ireland's oldest and most prestigious, how does the Trinity brand carry weight with employers and residency programs in the UK, US, and Europe?

Trinity College Dublin has a global reputation built over centuries. This thread explores whether the TCD name genuinely opens doors for medical graduates, how it is perceived by NHS employers, US residency program directors, and European postgraduate programs compared to RCSI or UCD.

honestly been wondering about this for ages. like we all know TCD sounds impressive when you say it out loud but does it actually matter when youre applying for foundation jobs in the UK or trying to get into a US residency? would love to hear from people who have actually gone through the process

so i graduated from TCD two years ago and matched into an NHS foundation programme in London. i cant say for sure if the TCD name alone got me there but during my interview one of the consultants literally said oh trinity, very good school. so it does register with people. whether it tips the scales i genuinely dont know but it doesnt hurt

im comparing TCD vs RCSI right now and one thing i keep hearing is that RCSI might actually be better known in certain countries because of their massive international alumni network. like in the middle east and southeast asia RCSI seems to pop up more. but in the US and UK i feel like TCD has the edge just because its older and has that oxford cambridge kind of vibe

yeah i think youre right about the regional thing. my cousin did RCSI and got into a programme in Canada pretty easily and she said the name recognition there was solid. but when i spoke to a programme director in New York at a conference he knew TCD straight away and was asking me questions about the Book of Kells lol. so it depends on where youre applying i guess
