What's something you wish you knew before starting at AUB?

Hey AUB community! We’re opening up this thread for incoming and current students to share the things they wish someone had told them before their first day. Whether it’s about registration, campus life, academic tips, or just navigating the whole experience, drop it here. This is a judgment-free space, and your input might genuinely help someone who’s just getting started. We’ll keep this thread pinned through orientation season, so the more you share, the better. Let’s help each other out.

honestly the biggest thing for me was not understanding how AUB credit hours actually work until it was too late to fix my schedule. i signed up for 18 credits my first semester thinking that was normal and nearly lost my mind. talk to your advisor before you finalize anything, not after. also the add/drop period is shorter than you think so don’t sleep on it.

that the West Hall steps are not just a hangout spot, they are basically the social heartbeat of campus. if you want to know what’s going on, who’s running for student elections, which clubs are active, just sit there for 20 minutes. also join at least one club your first week before you get too comfortable doing nothing.

can we talk about the parking situation. i drove for an entire semester before i realized taking a service from Hamra is faster and way less stressful than circling around campus looking for a spot. also use the AUB shuttle if you live in certain areas, it’s free and honestly underrated.

this is so real. 18 credits is only survivable if you have literally no other obligations. i did it once and i passed but i also did not sleep properly for four months so. just start with 15, figure out how your professors grade, then go from there.

office hours are not a trap. i avoided them for two years because i thought going meant you were struggling and professors would judge you. turns out they literally just want to talk about the material and half of them remember you when it comes to grading. go to office hours. please.
